About the Author

Satyajit Ray was born in 1921 to a prominent Bengali family in Calcutta, West Bengal. He started working as a commercial artist and was inspired by a French filmmaker, Jean Renoir, during his visit to London. He has made 36 movies in total, starting from Pather Panchali, which was released in 1955. This movie won the Best Human Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival, along with ten other international awards. Along with Apur Sansar and Aparajito, this film formed the Apu Trilogy. The publicity material, credit titles, editing, scoring and scripting were all done by Satyajit Ray himself.
